We cordially invite you to our autumn school in Agios Nikolaos as part of the international project CLIMADEMY (Climate Change Teacher’s Academy). During this school we will address educational challenges of teaching climate change as well as tools that address these challenges.

The Laboratory of Environmental and Chemical Processes of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Crete and the Regional Directorate of Education of Crete are organizing, as part of the Erasmus+ project CLIMADEMY (Climate Change Teachers’ Academy), an international Autumn School in Agios Nikolaos for training teachers in climate change education. The school will take place from November 3 to 5, 2024, and will include lectures and hands-on activities for educators of all educational levels. This aims to familiarize participants not only with the scientific concepts of climate change but also with pedagogical practices that will help them convey these concepts in the classroom.

During the school, participants will be introduced to the CLIMADEMY program’s educational framework for teaching climate change and will engage in activities that demonstrate how to apply this framework in the classroom. These activities will be held at the Research and Innovation Hub in Nofalia/Finokalia, Lassithi. Additionally, participants will visit the environmental station of the University of Crete in Finokalia to become familiar with climate change measurement practices and to see the research equipment used in studying climate change.

Teachers of all educational levels (from primary to tertiary) and various specialties from six countries (England, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Finland, and Greece) are participating in the Autumn School. Due to the international nature of the school, educators from across Europe will have the opportunity to interact with colleagues from other countries and exchange ideas and practices on teaching climate change.

Autumn School Program

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, the program includes the Climademy Café at Peripou Coffeehouse in Agios Nikolaos, featuring presentations and an open discussion on:

  • On the second and third days (November 4-5, 2024), activities will take place at the specially equipped school in Nofalia, including scientific presentations, experiments, hands-on activities, and workshops.
