Dynamic Participation of the University of Crete at NAFSA 2024 in New Orleans

The University of Crete proudly announces its participation in the renowned annual exhibition for international education, “NAFSA 2024 Annual Conference & Expo,” which was held from May 28 to May 31, 2024, in New Orleans, USA. The presence of the University of Crete at NAFSA is one of the most significant internationalization actions in the institution’s history.

The Greek academic delegation, consisting of twenty representatives from nine universities, including the University of Crete, participates in NAFSA for the first time, highlighting the increased importance of strategic cooperation between Greece and the USA in the field of Higher Education.

Every year, NAFSA serves as a meeting point for organizations, institutions, and professionals from all spectrums of international education. This year’s event is expected to attract over 10,000 participants from all corners of the globe. The participation of the University of Crete in NAFSA provides a unique opportunity to showcase its academic programs and achievements, as well as to develop new collaborations with international institutions.

Representing the U.S. Embassy in Greece, Ms Shanna Surendra, Cultural Affairs Officer, and from the Embassy of Greece in the U.S. Ambassador Aikaterini Nassika, highlighted the importance of this event. The University of Crete was represented by Professor Maria Vamvakaki, the upcoming Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Research Policy, and Ms. Evgenia Skountaki, Head of the Welcome Office. This team promoted the university’s capabilities and enhanced its international presence. Their participation in NAFSA was strongly supported by the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, as well as the US Embassy in Greece, reinforcing the commitment to further internationalization and increasing the university’s outward orientation.

The participation of the University of Crete at NAFSA 2024 was a decisive step towards achieving the strategic goal of the government and the institution to strengthen Greek-American educational relations and highlight Greece as an international educational hub.
