On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, a formal visit took place at the University of Crete in Rethymno by a delegation from the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA).
Since February this year, the two institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote research, academic studies, and the exchange of faculty and students at all levels, an initiative spearheaded by Professor Christophe Roche, Visiting Professor and ERA Chair holder at the University of Crete.
The purpose of this visit by esteemed members of NUAA was to define key areas of collaboration across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and technological disciplines. Following presentations of the two universities, discussions focused on proposals for joint research projects and co-supervision of doctoral dissertations, with particular emphasis on the field of artificial intelligence and its applications.
The University of Crete’s Rectorate was represented by the Vice-Rector for Development, International Relations, and Outreach, Professor Melina Tamiolaki, and the Vice-Rector for Finance and Infrastructure, Associate Professor Giorgos Stamatopoulos.
The NUAA delegation was represented by Professor Taiyong, Vice President of the Administrative Council; Professor Huang Shengjun, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences; Professor Ding Chen, Vice President of the Administrative Council of the School of Automation Engineering; and Shen Min, Deputy Head of the International Relations Office.
Also participating in the meeting were the Dean of the School of Natural and Technological Sciences at the University of Crete, Professor Antonis Savvidis; the Chair of the Department of Computer Science, Associate Professor Kostas Magoutis; the Dean of the School of Philosophy, Professor Angela Kastrinaki; the Chair of the Department of History and Archaeology, Associate Professor Eleftheria Zei; Professor Christophe Roche; Assistant Professor Maria Papadopoulou; and Maria Prentaki, Collaborator at the Laboratory of Educational Material, Educational Documentation, and Media (EDIVEA).
The Chinese delegation concluded their visit with a tour of the Gallos Campus facilities, including a guided tour of the University Library led by the Library Director, Ms. Eleni Kovaiou.
