Tsinghua University Delegation Visits the University of Crete – Strengthening Academic Ties

On February 10, 2025, the University of Crete hosted a delegation of students from Dushi College, Tsinghua University at the Voutes Campus.  

The visit, organized by the Welcome Office of the University of Crete, included presentations from university officials and faculty members.  

The delegation attended presentations by:  
-Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Lifelong Learning, and Research Policy, Prof. Maria Vamvakaki, and  
-Vice Rector for Administrative Affairs and Student Welfare, Prof. Sofia Schiza, who presented the structure and academic framework of the University of Crete.  

A key highlight of the visit was the presentation by the Vice Rector of Development, International Relations and Outreach, Prof. Melina Tamiolaki, “University of Crete and China: A Growing Connection”, as well as a historical discussion by Dr. Yorgos Moraitis and the Chair of the Department of Political Science, Prof. Elias Georgantas on “Maritime Silk Roads: Sino-Greek Connections in the Context of Late Modernity”.  

Meanwhile, the academic structure and key aspects of their respective departments were presented by:  
Prof. Andreas Zezas, Chair of the Department of Physics
Assoc. Prof. Panagiotis Chatzipandelidis, Deputy Chair of the Department of Mathematics & Applied Mathematics 
Prof. Konstantinos Magoutis, Chair of the Department of Computer Science  
Assoc. Prof. Grigoris Emvalomatis, Department of Economics
Prof. Gerasimos Armatas, Department of Materials Sciences and Engineering
 
As a result of this meeting, both institutions aim to explore opportunities for establishing a formal and enduring partnership. This initiative seeks to enhance collaboration and foster a fruitful academic relationship between the University of Crete and Dushi College, Tsinghua University.
