Heraklion, Greece — 5 September 2025 — The University of Crete welcomed a student delegation from Tsinghua University for a day of academic exchange and dialogue in the Senate Hall in Heraklion. The visit featured academic presentations and student-led discussions designed to strengthen cultural and educational collaboration between Greece and China.
The program opened with remarks by Professor Melina Tamiolaki, Vice Rector for Development, International Relations and Outreach, followed by a presentation on the Faculty of Letters by Professor Angeliki Kastrinaki, Dean. Academic talks included Assistant Professor Athanasios Mailis (Department of History and Archaeology), “Medieval and Post-Medieval Crete: A Crossroads of Cultures,” and Rafail Giannadakis (BA in Philology—Classics; Research Assistant, TALOS–AI4SSH), “Bridging Worlds of Thought: An Ontology of Ancient Greek and Chinese Philosophers.”
Student exchange sessions highlighted reciprocal learning: Tsinghua students presented an overview of Sino-Greek history, cultural ties, and prospects for cooperation, while University of Crete students shared perspectives on youth participation in international initiatives and China–Greece relations. Mixed small-group discussions were followed by an open plenary.
