The University of Crete welcomed a delegation from Shandong Jiaotong University (SDJTU) from the province of Shandong, China, with the aim of initiating institutional cooperation and developing joint activities in education and research. The delegation was formally received by the Rector, Professor Georgios M. Kontakis, and the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Research Policy and Lifelong Learning, Professor Maria Vamvakaki.
The strategic priorities and collaboration opportunities between the two universities were presented during the visit, with emphasis on Computer Science, joint research activities, student, and staff exchanges, as well as industry–academia interface initiatives.
The SDJTU delegation was composed of Prof. Wang Wei (Chairperson of the University Council), Prof. Fu Daochun, Campus Development Office, Mr.Ma Yu, Director of International Office, Prof. Ma Qiang Director of Crew Education & Training Quality Management Office, and Mr.Liu Baoyun Vice Director of Enterprises & Universities Integration Office.
Both sides agreed to proceed with the preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and to explore pilot initiatives for the academic year 2025–26, including thematic workshops, short-term student mobility schemes and exchanges or academic visits of faculty members.
