The event entitled “The Bull of Europe” was successfully held on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, at the University of Crete Library, featuring distinguished Chinese poet, playwright, travel writer and visual artist Han Bo.

The event was organized by the Centre for Ancient Greek and Chinese Civilization (KELKIP), in collaboration with the School of Humanities Dean’s Office at the University of Crete, as part of the “Bridges with China” series, which promotes cultural dialogue and exchange between Greece and China.

Drawing inspiration from the myth of the abduction of Europa, which is also symbolically reflected in the University of Crete’s logo, Han Bo presented his work, exploring the creative possibilities that emerge from the encounter between different cultures through poetry, literature and the arts.

Born in northeastern China and based in Shanghai, Han Bo has published five poetry collections and five travel books, and his work has been translated into numerous languages. He has also written more than ten plays and founded the Night Stage Drama Studio in Shanghai. His international experience includes participation in major literary festivals and programmes around the world, and he has received several distinctions, including China’s Liu YiLan Poetry Award.

The event offered a valuable opportunity to strengthen cultural ties between Greece and China, highlighting the power of literature and art to foster communication, mutual understanding and intercultural exchange.
