The University of Crete welcomed a delegation from Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) on 19 January 2026, within the framework of an academic visit aimed at strengthening international cooperation and student engagement.
The delegation, consisting of faculty members and postgraduate students from the School of Journalism and Communication, participated in joint academic activities with members of the University of Crete community. The visit opened with welcome remarks by Professor Maria Vamvakaki, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Research Policy and Lifelong Learning, followed by Professor Li Zhang, Associate Dean and Jean Monnet Chair at Tsinghua University.
The academic program included thematic lectures by Professor Nikos Papadakis and Dr Georgia Dimari on European migration, security, and policy challenges, as well as a student presentation by Aristea (Aria) Papadopoulou on human rights and political communication in the digital public sphere.
A key component of the visit was the implementation of hands-on cultural activities, during which students from both universities worked together in mixed groups, fostering intercultural dialogue and experiential learning.
The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to international academic cooperation.
